Rodent Control

Take action at the first sign of rodents to avoid risks of disease and damage to your property.

Where are rats found in the UK?

Rats are rodents that are widely distributed and common in Britain, occuring in the countryside and urban areas. They are highly adaptable and feed on a wide variety of foods. They can make their homes underground or in compost heaps, in buildings, greenhouses, sheds or drains.

What problems can rats cause?

Rats can cause huge damage to crops, carry deadly diseases to humans and cause huge damage to properties. The quantity of rats in the UK has exploded to around 70 million.

Rats cause damage to foods that we intend to eat, either while it is growing or after it has been harvested and is being stored. Rats will take food provided for wild birds, poultry and pets. Brown Rats can inflict a great amount of structural damage. They can cause serious fires by gnawing away the insulation around electrical cables, floods by puncturing pipes and even death by chewing through gas pipes. The insurance sector have estimated that rodent damage to wiring is responsible for 25% of all electrical fires in buildings.. Rats often carry a deseases that can infect people including Salmonella, Listeria, Toxoplasma gondii and Hantavirus., and Leptospirosis or Weil’s disease causing a form of jaundice known as leptospirosis or Weil’s  disease. The bacterium is spread in rats’ urine and can persist in wet places. It infects people through cuts and abrasions or by ingestion.

What should you do if you susupect you have a rodent problem?

If you have any signs of  rats in the UK around your home, business, farm or fishery it’s really important to have them treated immediately before it turns into a serious infestation. Remember that rats breed at an alarming rate, and one rat can turn into 100 very quickly.
